Use listing coloring pages and one of the crayon methods for your following classroom art lesson.

RESIST TECHNIQUES

Variation 1:

Trace in the photocopied picture outline with crayon.
Thick lines perform most optimally.
Brush over the whole page with thin paint. Only use one color.
The waxed lines will resist the paint and the picture will glow through.

Variation 2:

Color a lot of the picture with crayon. Leave some areas white.
Brush in the whole page with thin paint. Only use one color.

Variation 3:

Draw on the lines with crayon.
Paint the photo with numerous colors.
The crayon lines could make the picture easier to paint.
They stop edges bleeding into the other.

Variation 4:

This is not a resist yet it’s an excellent extension with the previous activities.
Paint the picture with watercolors.
When the paint is dry, use crayons to provide detail and depth of color.

RUBBING TECHNIQUES

Variation 1:

Rip off a tiny notepad that is about the sized a matchbox.
Use a crayon to scribble thickly on the paper.
Turn the paper over and ultizing your thumb rub the crayon on to the picture.
This creates a very soft smooth effect.

Variation 2:

Color an area of the photo with a textured object placed underneath.
Sandpaper, string, crumpled paper, bricks, bark, leaves, signs and rocks can cause interesting patterns. Experiment having a part of blank paper first.

Variation 3:

Use grated pieces or shavings of crayon to generate a swirling effect.
Sprinkle the crayon on to the picture after which rub all of them with your thumb.

This is effective the use of different colors together.
It makes effective animal fur, storm clouds or grass.

TRANSPARENT TECHNIQUE

Go on the outline of the image with black crayon.
Color the remainder of the image thickly with crayon.
If possible use a small part of cotton wool or cloth to polish the photo.
Heat from your friction of rubbing melts the crayon and produces a smooth shiny effect.
Apply a little amount of vegetable oil to your cotton wool ball.
Gently rub the oil over the back of the photo.
The oil can make the photo almost transparent.
Students can be due to the oil soaked balls in a paint tray.
Encourage the crooks to check out and on the picture to spread the oil.
Hang the image in a classroom window to produce a stained glass effect.
