Use print coloring pages the other of the crayon processes for the following classroom art lesson.

RESIST TECHNIQUES

Variation 1:

Trace within the photocopied picture outline with crayon.
Thick lines work best.
Brush on the whole page with thin paint. Only use one color.
The waxed lines will resist the paint and the picture will glow through.

Variation 2:

Color a lot of the picture with crayon. Leave some areas white.
Brush in the whole page with thin paint. Only use one color.

Variation 3:

Draw within the lines with crayon.
Paint the photo with any number of colors.
The crayon lines is likely to make the picture better to paint.

They will minimize edges bleeding into each other.

Variation 4:

This is not a resist but it’s a fantastic extension from the previous activities.
Paint the image with watercolors.
When the paint is dry, use crayons to provide detail and depth of color.

RUBBING TECHNIQUES

Variation 1:

Rip off a smaller piece of paper that is in regards to the size a matchbox.
Use a crayon to scribble thickly on the paper.
Turn the paper over and using your thumb rub the crayon on to the picture.
This creates a very soft smooth effect.

Variation 2:

Color a location of the picture which has a textured object placed underneath.
Sandpaper, string, crumpled paper, bricks, bark, leaves, signs and rocks can produce interesting patterns. Experiment having a little bit of blank paper first.

Variation 3:

Use grated pieces or shavings of crayon to make a swirling effect.
Sprinkle the crayon on to the image then rub all of them with your thumb.

This is successful if you utilize different colors together.
It makes effective animal fur, storm clouds or grass.

TRANSPARENT TECHNIQUE

Go in the outline of the picture with black crayon.
Color the remainder of the photo thickly with crayon.
If possible use a tiny little bit of cotton wool or cloth to polish the picture.
Heat through the friction of rubbing melts the crayon and results in a smooth shiny effect.
Apply a small amount of vegetable oil to a cotton wool ball.
Gently rub the oil in the back of the picture.
The oil is likely to make the picture almost transparent.
Students may be in the oil soaked balls in a very paint tray.
Encourage these phones review and within the picture to spread the oil.
Hang the image in a very classroom window to produce a stained glass effect.
