Variation 3:

The crayon lines could make the picture easier to paint.

They stop edges bleeding into one another.

Variation 4:

This is not a resist but it is an incredible extension of the previous activities.

When the paint is dry, use crayons to provide detail and depth of color.

RUBBING TECHNIQUES

Variation 1:

Rip off a tiny piece of paper that is about the height and width of a matchbox.
Use a crayon to scribble thickly to the paper.
Turn the paper over and ultizing your thumb rub the crayon on to the picture.
This generates a very soft smooth effect.

Variation 2:

Color a location of the picture with a textured object placed underneath.
Sandpaper, string, crumpled paper, bricks, bark, leaves, signs and rocks can create interesting patterns. Experiment using a piece of blank paper first.

Variation 3:

Use grated pieces or shavings of crayon to make a swirling effect.
Sprinkle the crayon on to the photo and after that rub these with your thumb.

This is effective if you utilize different colors together.
It makes effective animal fur, storm clouds or grass.

TRANSPARENT TECHNIQUE

Go in the outline of the image with black crayon.
Color the remainder of the picture thickly with crayon.
If possible use a smaller bit of cotton wool or cloth to polish the photo.
Heat from the friction of rubbing melts the crayon and generates a smooth shiny effect.
Apply a small amount of vegetable oil to a cotton wool ball.
Gently rub the oil on the back of the photo.
The oil can make the picture almost transparent.
Students could be due to the oil soaked balls in a very paint tray.
Encourage the crooks to review and over the picture to spread the oil.
Hang the photo in a classroom window to generate a stained glass effect.
