RESIST TECHNIQUES

Variation 1:

Trace on the photocopied picture outline with crayon.
Thick lines work most effectively.
Brush within the whole page with thin paint. Only use one color.

Variation 2:

Color a lot of the picture with crayon. Leave some areas white.
Brush on the whole page with thin paint. Only use one color.

Variation 3:

Draw within the lines with crayon.
Paint the image with many colors.
The crayon lines will make the picture much easier to paint.
They will minimize edges bleeding into the other person.

Variation 4:

This is not a resist but it’s an incredible extension with the previous activities.
Paint the picture with watercolors.
When the paint is dry, use crayons to provide detail and depth of color.

RUBBING TECHNIQUES

Variation 1:

Rip off a tiny notepad that is regarding the sized a matchbox.
Use a crayon to scribble thickly to the paper.

Variation 2:

TRANSPARENT TECHNIQUE

Go over the outline of the photo with black crayon.
Color the remainder of the picture thickly with crayon.
If possible use a tiny part of cotton wool or cloth to polish the photo.
Heat from your friction of rubbing melts the crayon and results in a smooth shiny effect.
Apply a small amount of vegetable oil with a cotton wool ball.
Gently rub the oil within the back of the picture.
The oil will make the photo almost transparent.
Students may be given the oil soaked balls in a very paint tray.
Encourage these phones look at and in the picture to spread the oil.
Hang the image in a very classroom window to create a stained glass effect.
